Both Sony and Nintendo reported their financials today. And in a nutshell, things look good for Sony and not so good for big N. As we reported earlier this week, Sony returned to profitability in the second quarter of this year. But we now have confirmed numbers.
Sony reported a net profit of $290 million as of June 30 (it suffered from a $296 million loss in the same quarter last year), with sales rising 4% to $19.5 billion in that time frame.

The 3DS might have been the star of the E3 2010 and for good reason, too. It’s the long-awaited refresh that brings honest-to-goodness glasses-free 3D gaming to the DS platform. It’s pretty amazing actually. I got a chance to play most of the games at E3 and walked away impressed even though my eyes couldn’t make out the 3D in some of the titles.
Nintendo revealed the upcoming gaming console at the massive gaming trade show but failed to announce the price or release date. The speculation will end on September 29, though, when Nintendo finally comes clean with at least the release date.
And now EA has said what we’ve all been saying: the Nintendo 3DS is quite the piece of kit. Granted, EA doesn’t used the same bit of forced Briticism that I just did, but the feelings are the same: Nintendo has a hit on its hands. It’s one that when one of us say it, but EA?
